SIG leaders and CTPs David Brett, Jason Samuel, and Marius Sandbu put together this webinar on setting up NetScaler as a single point of authentication against Google, Azure and ADFS, leveraging AAA policies to deliver single sign-on to both XenDesktop and other web applications. They took a closer look at the integration between NetScaler and Microsoft EMS to deliver conditional access, and NetScaler Gateway as a service and how it works. CTA James Rankin discussed the challenges brought by Windows 10, both for VDI and traditional environments. Perhaps the biggest jump and adjustment is with regards to updates and migration. For administrators and architects, adapting the approach of the enterprise towards these new challenges is key. James discussed Windows 10 editions and features, the various servicing branches associated with each edition, and how to adapt your migration approach to embrace the new rapid-update cadence as a boon rather than a millstone. CTP Esther Barthel presented this informative session on practical tips and tricks for automating a NetScaler VPX deployment and configuration using NITRO (NetScaler's REST API) and PowerShell. She showed how to include NetScaler in your deployment strategies to automatically deliver a preconfigured XenDesktop infrastructure, with a couple of demos. She covered About the REST API and NetScaler's NITRO-based API framework, how PowerShell can automate NetScaler configuration with NITRO (REST API) calls, and how PowerShell scripting can automate the deployment of NetScaler VPX on XenServer or vSphere hypervisors with a fixed IP address. They provided an overview of the features and architecture, and outlined the different roles and nodes within NetScaler MAS. Topics also included licensing requirements and how you can monitor your NetScaler environment; NetScaler MAS Stylebooks and Automation; how to create and deploy a pre-defined application on your NetScaler to best practice; the options that MAS gives you on automation; and also how to integrate MAS and CPX in a container orchestration environment such as Kuberbetes and Mesosphere (and what kind benefits CPX). Randy J. Cress, CIO, and Justin Crabtree, Network Manager, of Rowan County, NC talked with CUGC member moderator Andy Whiteside about their Citrix story and how the maintain their environment. Rowan County, NC has been using Citrix for over seven years. They support 750 full time users across 22 departments. They utilize a single master image running on 44 production virtual servers with VMware as the hypervisor. This allows them to deliver a consistent environment to all users seamlessly across multiple device types. CUGC local group leaders Eduardo Molina (Cincinnati) and Jarian Gibson (Kansas City Metro) discussed Citrix Lifecycle management as a great resource for all Citrix Administrators and potential customers to accelerate rollout of environments for Proof of Concept or full production deployments, whether these deployments are done in on-premises data centers or leveraging cloud resources such as AWS or Microsoft Azure. They discussed and reviewed blueprints, and how to troubleshoot a deployment that fails to complete based on our field experience. They covered main concepts about Lifecycle management such as Blueprints, Deployment profiles, Resource Locations, CLM services, and Connector server, along with observations about pricing when deploying a XenDesktop demo environment on AWS and Azure.
